National Western Life Insurance Company Sues AIG unit
Western National Life Insurance Company

National Western Life insurance Company ("NWL") has sued Western National Life Insurance Company ("Western National (AIG)") for trademark infringement. The suit is currently pending in the U.S. District Court for The Western District of Texas, Austin Division. The case is set for trial in April 2011.

NWL is not affiliated in any way with AIG. Western National (AIG), however, is an indirect subsidiary of AIG. Formerly known as AIG Annuity Insurance Company, the company changed its official name to Western National Life Insurance Company in 2009.

Contending that the name change from AIG Annuity Insurance Company to Western National Life Insurance Company created a likelihood of confusion, NWL sued Western National (AIG) for, among other claims, infringement of NWL's registered United States trademark in National Western Life Insurance Company. AGC Life Insurance Company, another AIG entity, and the direct parent of Western National, also is a defendant in the case.

Western National (AIG) or its lawyers may attempt to contact you with questions concerning this matter. You are free to decide to cooperate or to decline. We would be interested in knowing if you have been contacted.

Please contact the NWL Marketing Department at 800-760-3434 <option 3> or email mktg@nationalwesternlife.com if:

  • You are or become aware of any instances of confusion between NWL and Western National (AIG);
  • You wish to report being contacted by Western National (AIG); or
  • You have any other questions or concerns.
